A Legacy Built to Last
As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, it’s a good time to reflect on the role Freeport has played – and continues to play – in helping move the country forward.
Progress in the U.S. has never happened overnight. It’s built over time by generations of people who show up every day and do the work that keeps this nation strong. That spirit has defined our country since its earliest days and continues to define us today.
Copper has been part of the U.S. story from the start. Long before it powered modern technology, copper helped a young nation defend its freedom, expand westward and build the foundations of everyday life. For more than a century, Freeport and the legacy companies that came before have been an important part of that work.
The stories in this edition of The Miner bring that history to life. You’ll read about mines that helped create communities across the American West – not just jobs, but towns, schools and traditions that still matter generations later. In many places, copper was more than just a resource, it was the foundation that held communities together.
You’ll also meet members of the Freeport team whose roots in mining span generations. Their stories are a powerful reminder that our history isn’t measured only in milestones and production numbers. It’s reflected in the people who showed up day after day, learned from one another and built lives around the work they believed in.
While this anniversary gives us a moment to reflect, it also reminds us to keep looking ahead. We’re building on our long history of innovation as we prepare for the future – using automation, data and artificial intelligence to rethink how mining is done and how we can do it better. That forward-looking mindset is part of what it means to be America’s Copper Champion.
