Company Celebrates Achievements of 2025 Summer Interns

Nearly 300 interns from around North America recently gathered at The Hub in Phoenix to present their summer projects, make personal connections and celebrate their Freeport experience.

Held over the course of two days, the 2025 Intern Conference recognized the summer interns – either current college students or recent graduates – who worked in areas such as engineering, mine planning, finance and accounting, human resources and health and safety. Of the 2025 summer interns, 130 were selected to present to fellow interns, mentors and company leaders about their summer projects.

To start the conference, Freeport President and Chief Executive Officer Kathleen Quirk welcomed the interns, speaking about a host of topics, including the company’s deployment of autonomous haul trucks in Bagdad, the critical role of copper to the world’s economy, her own career progression and the possibilities for those who have interned at the company.

“The internship program has been great value for Freeport,” Quirk said. “We have several interns that have spent their whole career here. Imagine that. From where you are today, going through our internship program and spending your whole career with the company.”

Emergency Responders Learn Helicopter Landing Zone Safety at Miami

Miami’s helicopter landing zone was the focus of recent coordination sessions with local emergency responders, underscoring its role as a vital access point during emergencies.
The site’s Emergency Response Team hosted crews from Tri-City Fire Department and Air Evac 7 for two sessions, each tailored to a different crew. The meetings covered key safety procedures and operational protocols needed to work effectively at the landing zone, which was built in 2023. These sessions marked the first formal collaboration at the site and strengthened preparedness between Miami personnel and their emergency response partners.

Sierrita Brings New Rectifier System Online

A new rectifier system is increasing power to Sierrita’s electrowinning process, ultimately helping put the site in position to boost production.

A rectifier is a device about the size of an SUV that converts alternating current into direct current. This is essential for the electrowinning process where copper is recovered from a solution through electrochemical deposition.
Sierrita’s new rectifier system is expected to increase the maximum flow of electricity into the process by about 40 percent.
