Kathleen Quirk Inducted into American Mining Hall of Fame

Joined by colleagues from around Freeport’s North America operations and mining leaders from around the country, President and Chief Executive Officer Kathleen Quirk was inducted into the American Mining Hall of Fame in December.

“Thank you so much, everyone, for being here tonight,” Quirk said in her remarks to the more than 800 people in attendance. “It means so much to me personally and to the Freeport organization to be together with you and the industry to celebrate this fun evening.”

Quirk went on to talk about the important work being performed by the Freeport team to supply the copper that helps power the nation’s economy and her optimistic outlook for the company’s future.

“We have a real opportunity now, when we think about how much the world needs what we do. We have an opportunity to produce more, to grow our business, to grow the opportunity for our communities.”

Quirk joins Richard Adkerson, Chairman of the Board, and a long list of past company leaders who have been inducted into the American Mining Hall of Fame.

Miami Operation Helps Globe-Miami Area Dig Out from Catastrophic Floods

Freeport and its Miami operation were quick to respond to devastating floods in the Globe-Miami area with
equipment, personnel and financial assistance to help the communities recover.

Torrential thunderstorms hit the area beginning September 25, causing severe flooding that left streets and homes filled with mud and debris. Three people were killed in the area, multiple company employees lost homes, and a state of emergency was declared for Globe, Miami and Gila County.

The response from Freeport’s Miami operation began as the floodwaters receded. Freeport crews used front-end loaders, dump trucks, skid steers and vacuum trucks to clear roadways, yards, businesses and homes. They also set up concrete barriers where dangerous conditions existed, while the company supplied shovels,dangerous conditions existed, while the company supplied shovels, wheelbarrows, large plastic bags and other tools necessary to aid in the cleanup.

Freeport has implemented the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management, the international benchmark launched in August 2020 to ensure the protection of people and the environment.

Freeport committed to having all applicable tailings storage facilities (TSFs) meet the tailings standard
by August 2025. The company’s achievement of full conformance within the committed time frame was
independently verified by an independent third party. This additional verification confirms conformance with the standard, which requires operators of TSFs to use specified measures to help prevent the failure of tailings facilities.

“Freeport has continuously improved our TSF engineering practices and management over the past 20 years,” said Tamara Johndrow, Director-Tailings, Crushed Leach and Water. “Since the tailings standard launch five years ago, our multi-disciplinary team has integrated its requirements into our existing management systems, and we are proud of our accomplishments with facility-level conformance. Safe and responsible management of our tailings facilities is an ongoing priority for Freeport.”
