Being the Best at the Basics

I hope 2024 is treating you well so far. I know we all are full speed ahead on this year’s activities, but I would like to reflect a little on 2023.
As you all know, we experienced a concerning rise in reportable injuries through the first half of the year. We sounded the alarm, so to speak, and you responded.

A concerted effort to address safety across the organization, and what I believe to be an enhanced focus on the fundamentals of the job, helped result in a gradual decrease in recordable safety incidents through the remainder of the year. Thank you for your help in turning that around.

Shifting to 2024, our focus is on safely achieving our targets by being the best at the basics. This means eliminating distractions and being laser focused on what’s most important.

This edition of The Miner contains more detailed information about our focus areas for 2024. These include maximizing the Leach to the Last Drop effort, driving improved equipment reliability, providing our employees what they need to reach our targets safely and achieving our safe production goals. While the work may be similar to last year, we’ve added clear targets that will help us determine whether we truly have been successful.

My first request this year is the same as always: Be uncompromised in your focus on safety. Secondly, help keep the 2024 priorities top of mind. Bring these themes into your team discussions, identify opportunities to get better and act on them, collaborate across the organization, share lessons learned along the way, and let leadership know what we can be doing to better support you.
Wishing you all continued safety and success.
