Bagdad Unveils Flag-Themed Haul Truck Beds

Just ahead of the Fourth of July and America’s 250th anniversary, Bagdad began deploying new Schlam haul truck beds featuring a full American flag design. The first of these beds marks the transition from validation trials to full-scale implementation, as the site continues improvements to its autonomous haulage fleet.

Schlam haul truck beds are lighter and more durable than traditional designs, allowing trucks to carry larger payloads, reduce maintenance, shorten dump-cycle times and improve the efficiency of autonomous haulage operations. Bagdad currently targets a 260-ton payload for autonomous, and the new Schlam beds provide roughly 4 additional tons of capacity.

Morenci Welcomes Big Addition to Haul Truck Fleet

Morenci recently celebrated the arrival of its first Komatsu 980E-5 ultra-class haul truck during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by site leaders and representatives of Komatsu.

The 980E-5 is among the largest haul trucks in the mining industry, capable of carrying more than 400 tons of material in a single load. The capacity of the Komatsu truck is more than 50 percent greater than a typical 260-ton class haul truck.

Team members representing Operations, Haulage, Loading, Safety, Information Technology, Training, Maintenance, Mine Engineering and Supply Chain gathered to witness the truck’s deployment and learn about its performance capabilities. The celebration concluded with a catered barbecue lunch.

The site rolled out its first ultra-class trucks in December. The addition of the first two Komatsu trucks brings the total number of ultra-class trucks at Morenci to 10 through mid-August. Another 12 ultra-class trucks – two of them the Komatsu 980E-5s – are expected to be deployed by the end of the year.
