Freeport, Mining Industry Converge on Las Vegas for MINExpo
In a time of growing demand for copper, MINExpo – the world’s largest mining exhibition – brought 45,000 attendees to Las Vegas in September to showcase the latest technologies and solutions to sustainable mining practices.
About 240 Freeport employees from around the globe attended the event to represent the company and connect with other industry leaders. This year’s MINExpo featured more than 2,000 exhibitors from 148 countries, and the exhibit hall spanned more than 850,000 square feet of space.
Hosted every four years, MINExpo is the National Mining Association’s industry tradeshow. The event gives mining professionals and vendors the opportunity to explore the latest strategies and products for engineering, health and safety, and more. This year’s event marked the company’s first participation since 2016 due to the COVID pandemic.
Among the highlights at this year’s MINExpo, Safford received the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health 2024 Mine Safety and Health Technology Innovations Award. The award recognized Safford, Arizona, operations for implementing an automated copper cathode stripping machine, which helps reduce hazard exposure while making cathode sampling and labeling more reliable.
